The Government suspends classes throughout the national territory

Through an official statement, the General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency (Secom) announced that classes on Thursday, October 3 are suspended throughout the national territory. The decision is taken before the stoppages announced by transport unions, who reject the economic measures dictated by the president of the Republic Lenín Moreno.

The official details that the decision aims to preserve the safety of schoolchildren. They even indicated that the economic measures imposed on the night of Tuesday, October 1 will be defended, because they are considered “keys” for the present and future of Ecuador.

The suspension does not apply to universities, because they enjoy autonomy, according to the Secom.

The Government completely rejected any type of demonstrations and indicated that the only ones harmed will be those who want to “work and produce”.

As detailed, they have maintained “fluid” dialogue with the sectors, so they are “surprised” that they have decided to go out to protest. “If necessary we will invoke the constitutional and legal norms that prohibit the paralysis of public services,” says the document.
