The IESS aims to reduce reliance on private clinics
Posted On 28 Feb 2016

The Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) will progressively reduce the need for private clinics.
How will they do it? The strengthening of new hospitals and surgeries scheduled on weekends and holidays, which started on February 14, are two mechanisms.
Yesterday Richard Espinosa, president of the Board of IESS, went to the Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín (HCAM) of Quito to determine compliance with the surgeries plan scheduled for the weekend. According to official information, in the first two weeks, 122 interventions were made in the country. 130 surgeries are scheduled for this week.
He acknowledged they will always require the assistance of private clinics “as a result of high demand we have,” but this will be reduced. (I)
