The links that corner Guacho
Ecuadornews:
Colombia names the alleged kidnapper of the newspaper team El Comercio: Gustavo Angulo Arboleda, alias Cherry.
The Minister of Defense of the neighboring country, Luis Carlos Villegas, informed of this new capture of the member of the Oliver Sinisterra group in the neighborhood of Centro de la Guayacana, municipality of Tumaco, as part of the operative ‘Heroes de la Guayacana’ that captured 12 adults and 2 minors allegedly involved in the murder of three researchers of the Colombian CTI. “Cherry, according to the information we have the one that allegedly intercepted the truck in which the journalistic team was traveling in Mataje, an Ecuadorian territory. He later transferred the team to Colombia and gave them to alias Reinel (already detained), “said the Colombian official.
Alias Cherry, arrested during a raid by the Police in coordination with military forces and the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office, ringleader of Oliver Sinisterra’s squad. He was in the ranks of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia until 2016 when he defected together with Walter Arízala, alias Guacho, leader of the dissident group.
Investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office of the neighboring country to determine the degree of participation of Cherry in the kidnapping of the team of newspaper El Comercio are “very advanced,” said the Colombian minister, and in due time will inform the court news on the indictment of the public prosecutor. There is also a presumption about the participation of this new captured in the murder of the members of the Colombian CTI.
In the same operation in which Cherry is arrested and 14 others were seized two rifles, five pistols, three revolvers, pentolite, 40-mm grenades, improvised explosive devices, six cell phones, a communications radio, a computer and drugs.
With this, the Colombian authorities add more than eight blows to the terrorist group that kidnapped and murdered Javier Ortega, Paul Rivas and Efraín Segarra, of the newspaper team of El Comercio; and the Ecuadorian couple Óscar Villacís and Katty Velasco. He also killed four Ecuadorian soldiers on the northern border.
These blows show a weakening of the forces of Guacho and reinforce the affirmation of the Ecuadorian Interior Minister, Mauro Toscanini, that the capture of Oliver Sinisterra’s leader is getting closer. One of the first hard setbacks for the high command of the terrorist group was the capture of Vicente Cánticus Pascal, alias Brayan, lieutenant of the dissident group and Guacho’s trusted man. This was followed by the capture of the brother of the leader of the group, Juan Gabriel Arízala Vernaza, aka Javier, accused of the crime of conspiracy to commit a crime.
The apprehension of Jesús Vargas Cuajiboy, alias Reinel, presumed custodian of the members of the newspaper team of El Comercio, began to reveal the faces and names of the captors and the last people who saw them alive. He is now imprisoned in the maximum security prison in Cómbita, Colombia, accused of aggravated conspiracy to commit aggravated extortion and kidnapping.
And now Cherry is another piece in the puzzle of the last steps of journalists. (I)
