30-S: 13 Defendants Awaiting Sentence for Breaking Public Media
Almost a year after the police revolt of last September 30 (30-S), the Unit for Crimes against Public Administration, led by prosecutor Gustavo Benitez, decided that there were elements of a “forcible entrance” to the public media, to generate a so-called social chaos.
During the dictum session, brothers Pablo and Jose Luis Guerrero, Xavier Montesdeoca and Maria Alejandra Cevallos were charged as masterminds, While Juan Carlos Carrasco, Galo Monteverde, Victor Erazo, Paul Camacho, Francisco Endara, Max Marin, Maria Crespo, Nery Fajardo and Patricio Proaño were accused as perpetrators in the entrance of the premises of Ecuador TV and Radio Publica that night.
The prosecution asked the judge fifth of Criminal Guarantees, Raul Martinez, to convene to trial the 13 accused and to issue arrest warrant for the defendants from eight to twelve years for the defendants, plus fines from $ 87 to $ 175.
The parties’ attorneys defended the innocence of their clients and claimed that there is no crime of sabotage and terrorism in the unauthorized entry to the media, ensuring that they never broke Ecuador TV signal.
