The new legislative term of the National Assembly begins
Today, the 137 assembly members will finally assume their roles as legislators of the country, and in the head, leading the way for the first time, three women carry the important task; Gabriela Rivadeneira as president and Rossana Alvarado and Marcela Aguinaga as vice presidents.
With 100 assembly members allied with the government’s movement Alianza PAIS (AP), the government will have 73% of the representation in the plenary, a fact that is happening for the first time in the history of Ecuador and that will have a tremendous influence at the time of approving laws or reforms, whether they are driven by the plenary or the Executive.
On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, which began today at 10:00 in the morning, streets near the Legislative Palace are closed to traffic, while 350 soldiers, men and women, are guarding the entrance. In addition, the new legislators will be greeted with the marching band of the Armed Forces, along with Police and Metropolitan Police personnel, who also work with security operations.
On its behalf, the AP bench has revealed that its priority for the first one hundred days is the approval of the Criminal Code, the Communications Act, the Act of Accession of La Concordia to Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, the Water Act and amendments to the Comptroller’s Act and the Culture Act.
