The Referendum Is a “Fraud”, Gutierrez Says

Former Ecuadorian president Lucio Gutierrez said the referendum campaign is a “fraud”, he claims that president Rafael Correa has abused public resources.

“Unfortunately I have to report to Ecuador and the world that this has been the most fraudulent and unequal electoral process in the history of our country,” Gutierrez told reporters after voting at a school in the north of Quito. 

Gutierrez accused the CNE (National Electoral Council) to be “sold in body and soul to the president’s proposal.” He said Correa “has mobilized the entire public administration to campaign.” Gutierrez denounced the use of programs developed by the Chair, which are forced to be broadcasted on national television, known as “cadenas” in Ecuador, to promote the “yes” option in the referendum, although the CNE set some restrictions.
