The SIP calls “outrage” the intervention in Diario Hoy
The Inter American Press Association (SIP for its Spanish acronym) called the Diario Hoy intervention by the Superintendency of Companies an “outrage for freedom of information”.
Claudio Paolillo, President of the Committee on Freedom of Press and Information of the IAPA said: “We note with sadness how, with the cessation of activities of Hoy, another voice is muted in Ecuador and the public’s right to enjoy of pluralism and access to different opinions is still run over”.
Carlos Marx Carrasco, Minister for Industrial Relations, said that he hopes to help the former employees of the newspaper. “We want to secure a new job and why not, the option to endeavor”, he said. He also expects to analyze the possibility that workers can buy the machinery”.
