The sustainability of coffee is focused on farmers

Ecuadornews:
Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (OIC), José Dauster Sette affirmed yesterday that the sustainability of the coffee sector should be focused on farmers.
“Above all, sustainability must be focused on the cultivator. Farmers are the basis of the coffee value chain,” said Sette in his speech at the first World Forum of Coffee Producers, held in the Colombian city of Medellín.
Sette noted that the OIC has the “most important challenge” to find ways to make the coffee sector more sustainable globally. “We must ensure a healthy environment where the commercial interests of the industry are aligned with the needs of the other links in the chain, to achieve sustainability over time,” he said. He spoke of the needs of farmers, especially the small ones who are “desperately” seeking financing sources. (I)
