The University of the Arts opens two pioneering masters
Ecuadornews:
The costs are $ 6,600 and $ 6,900, and registrations will be received until September 7. On October 5 begin classes in the masters of Photography and Society, and Public Policy and Management in Arts, with these two programs the University of Arts (UArtes) will begin its fourth level offer.
“They are pioneers in the country,” says Aurora Zanabria, who coordinates the Master of Photography and Society. The master’s degree, which will include teachers Ángel Emilio Hidalgo, Lucía Durán and Luca Pagliari, is aimed at photographers and people who manage images to build archives.
“It’s photography and society because to know what society this is, we have to know what society was,” says Zanabria.
In that sense, the archive of EL TELÉGRAFO, assigned to the UArtes, will be one of the main materials for the teachers. The idea is to help build “a critical reading of images. It is important to lose your naiveté when taking a picture, “says Zanabria. For Bradley Hilgert, director of the Master’s in Cultural Policies and Management in Arts, the program he coordinates responds to the need to professionalize managers and train people in making cultural decisions at the governmental level.
“If we review the social movements that ended in the 2008 Constitution, we see that culture is already being thought of as a factor of development, not just the economic,” says Hilgert. The Master of Cultural Policies and Management in Arts will feature professors Mónica Lacarrieu, Antonio Canelas and Mónica Kirchheimer, whose theoretical level Hilgert highlights. “
They have written textbooks that are used to study this.” The subjects, thought to be developed in situ (for example, in museums), are studied for five weeks and require the presence of the teachers only two weekends.
The costs of the master’s degrees range between $ 6,600 and $ 6,900, each program has eight Ecuadorian teachers and eight foreigners. Registration for these master’s degrees will be open until Friday, September 7 and the application can be made online through the portal uartes.edu.ec. (I)
