Tirteenth and fourteenth salaries will be paid monthly
According to the draft Labour Relations Code provided by the Executive last May 1, employees of public companies will receive their thirteenth and fourteenth salaries whithin their regular monthly payment.
Private employees may request to refrain from changing the form of payment of their wages, in writing, with a letter for their employers, otherwise the monthly allocation of these bonds will take effect automatically.
Despite strong opinions rejecting the initiative, on his last Saturday broadcast, President Rafael Correa anticipated that he will not back down at this point because it is an option that will allow employees to earn interests. The president said that Ecuadorians should be disciplined and not spend their money.
“That argument does not need to be analyzed, you can ask me to give away my diploma rather than yield to such absurd discussions. We will not back down on that, but let it be very clear: the monthly allocation of these bonds is just to win, no one loses,” Correa said during his last Saturday broadcast transmitted from Machala (El Oro).
