Tourist areas of Esmerladas, affected by floods
Last week the Green River overflowed, causing damages in business. Residents of the community demand the conclusion of a retaining wall.
For nine years tourism and gastronomy have been the main economic activities of this community of about 320 people. Tables, chairs and about 800 of nearly 1,500 crabs kept for the Carnival holidays were lost in the floods.
After several days of cleaning, the inhabitants of this community resumed their work. “In some houses artifacts, mattresses also got wet, we have all been affected. (…) Since there are two-storey houses, the floor below collapsed, people whose houses were not affected gave shelter to people to spend the night … ” said Magaly Bautista, president of the Association of Entrepreneur Residents.
