Traffic accidents in Ecuador seem unstoppable
A bus that belongs to the Bolivar fleet, disk 36, that traveled from Quevedo to Calceta, crashed last Sunday and fell to the wayside in site of Come y Paga on the kilometre number 33, in the Quiroga parish of the canton Bolivar, province of Manabi. The accident caused 3 deaths and 22 were injured.
According to witnesses, the bus driver was speeding although the passengers had already insisted him to drive more slowly.
The police report of the UPC of the San Juan area, indicates that in the accident the couple formed by Yesica Caicedo Zamora (23 years old) and Antonio Velez (25 years old) were killed and also the bus driver Juan Rosero Santana (30 years old), who resided in El Empalme, Guayas province.
According to the figures which manages the National Transit Agency, the main cause of accidents in Ecuador is the inexperience of the driver. According to this report, of 25.588 accidents that occurred during 2010, the inexperience was the determining factor in 13.088 of the cases.
In 2011 there were 24.626 accidents and of these 11.203 were by inexperience, while in 2012 the figure was 84.223 accidents of which 11.397 were caused by inexperience.
