U.S. forbids Apple to use the term “mini”
According to blogs specialized in technology, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rejected a request by the California Company Apple to patent its iPad mini.
Last January, the USPTO announced its decision in a letter to Apple, saying its rejection is based in the fact that the term “mini” is “merely descriptive.
According to the office “the brand” that Apple claims for its market exclusivity “merely describes a feature or characteristic” and therefore does not create “a unique meaning.” Apple can still appeal the decision of the U.S. authorities.
In October of last year Apple introduced the iPad Mini, a smaller version, lighter and cheaper than its popular device, with features similar to the iPad 2 to enter the market of pocket tablets dominated by Google’s Android ecosystem.
