Unasur suspends leaders summit in Quito after earthquake
Posted On 21 Apr 2016
The meeting of the heads of State of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) that was scheduled for Saturday in Quito was suspended for the absence of quorum and in view of the earthquake that struck Ecuador, said Tuesday Foreign Minister of Uruguay Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
Nevertheless, the meeting of delegates and foreign ministers where Uruguay will transfer the pro tempore presidency of the body to Venezuela will be held, the official said in a letter sent to member countries.
The suspension of the summit of presidents occurs since the required number for the quorum was not reached.
