US and UN Demand an End to Syria’s Conflict
United States along with its European allies and the UN chief have complained about the anti-government protests in Syria and the way president Bashar al-Assad suppresses them.
Syria is on the brink of a civil war, now several Western nations asked Russia and China to end their blockage on UN Security Council over the measures against Syria’s government deadly assault on demonstrators. Russian’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov called such measures “risky recipes” by adding that there is high risk that could increase the Middle East conflict.
Recently Syria handled a UN Security Council ministerial meeting regarding the Arab uprisings. This came a day later after UN-Arab League envoy; Kofi Annan left Damascus, where he met with al-Assad. Such meeting exposed the disagreements with the Security Council. (AV)
