US Army presumed the death of 11 military from helicopter crash
The Army presumed dead 7 marines and 4 missing soldiers from Wednesday, said a military source, after the accident of a military helicopter that crashed during a nocturne exercise at the Air Force Eglin base, in the Florida Panhandle.
It was assumed that 11 soldiers were dead, Pentagon source said, adding that the Coast Guard had found wreckage remains in the water.
The disappearance of the ship was reported around 20:30 on Tuesday and search and rescue teams found remains around 2 am of Wednesday, said Eglin spokesman, Andy Bourland.
The Marines were part of a Special Operations Group based in Camp Lejeune and soldiers came from the National Guard base unit based in Hammond, Louisiana, officials said.
The area where the accident occurred was under a fog alert on Tuesday night and on Wednesday weather conditions remained in the morning, Eglin´s public affairs specialist Sara Vidoni said.
