USA Rejects the Stand of Venezuela and Ecuador
Yesterday Roberta Jacobson, the secretary of State of USA for Latin America, said the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is not a political tool of Washington as Venezuela says, she also opposed to moving its office outside the United States as Ecuador is requesting.
Jacobson explained that IACHR is a strong institution supported by the Americas and not a “tool of USA” like Hugo Chavez insists. Jacobson statements are a response to the State Council created by the Venezuelan leader to remove his country from IACHR.
The Ecuadorian Foreign minister Ricardo Patiño proposed moving the office of IACHR to another country. Since he considers illogical the United States shelters IACHR when it has not ratified the Inter-American Convention that rules the Commission.
Jacobson was disappointed by the postures that of some countries that USA considers their allies. (AV)
