Venezuelans in Ecuador support the self-proclamation of Juan Guaidó

Posted On 25 Jan 2019

Ecuadornews:

After the self-proclamation of the head of the Venezuelan Parliament, Juan Guaidó, as interim president of Venezuela (January 23, 2019), the EL TELÉGRAFO team consulted the opinion of several Venezuelan citizens based in Ecuador about the situation that their nation is currently experiencing.

Daniela Mejía arrived 4 months ago in Guayaquil and sells juice at Av. De las Américas, in Guayaquil. Mejía said that “we automatically support Juan Guaidó, we recognize him as the legitimate president of Venezuela. Maduro is not recognized by us, nor by many countries at this time.”

Richard Graterol, who works with Daniela, hopes that Guaidó can help them to return to their country soon. Elsewhere in the city, a group of Venezuelans working at the traffic lights around the monument to the Heroes del Cenepa, near Sauces 9, also shared their opinion.

“You feel an air of freedom with Juan Guaidó. What we want is for the government of Nicolás Maduro to fall, because it has us suffering too much “, is the reaction of Karlay Varela, who has been in Ecuador for 2 years.

According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, from 2016 to mid-2018 a total of 156,113 registered Venezuelans remain in Ecuador. (I)
