Violence in Rio de Janeiro Continues
The Rio de Janeiro police took down 23 drug dealers after five days of crossfire, the criminals tend to burn cars and strike police outposts. On this Thursday morning the delinquents continued their arson activities on the suburbs on the north of the city. The settlement would be the main location for the World Cup of 2014 and of the Olympic games of 2016.
Last night two buses were burned and its flames lasted to the morning according the military police, which sent reinforcements backed up by helicopters and armored vehicles. So far 10 people have been arrested on charges of drug dealing, which were sent to maximums security prisons en in the states of Parana and Rondonia, far away from Rio de Janeiro.
Police reports informed that an operative for this Thursday would take place on the favela of Villa Cruzeiro, according to the authorities the drug dealers have entrenched themselves after being exiled from 13 favelas of the city by the Peacekeeper Police Unit (UPP). The officers state that the attacks from the drug dealers began after the creation of this unit two years ago.
Last Sunday over 47 people have been arrested, some of the carried bottles with gasoline, firearms and drugs. So far 112 individuals were interrogated, meanwhile Coronel Lima Castro stated last Wednesday “17,500 men are on alert.”
