Writer Rafael Díaz Icaza died

Journalist and cultural Manager, Rafael Díaz Icaza, died yesterday at age 87 in Guayaquil, after having suffered a degenerative disease for a long period. His funeral will take place today at noon in the general cemetery.

Diaz Icaza discovered the love for  literature in his youth, since he was always  a man who cared about the conditions of life of the citizens, and that is reflected in his literary creations.

In one of his last tributes, the writer from Guayaquil received the national Government Award Eugenio Espejo in the year 2011.

Diaz Icaza is also the author of eight books of poetry, two novels and six books of short stories, for which he won the awards Aurelio Espinoza Pólit, José de la Cuadra (stories) , Medardo Ángel Silva (national poetry), Ismael Pérez Pazmiño,  Carlos Zevallos Menéndez, among others.
