Yasunidos requests intervention of the IACHR to suspend oil activities
In order that Ecuador’s government suspend oil activities in Block 31, the Collective YASunidos issued a request with this petition to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) due to sightings of peoples in voluntary isolation in the area.
The order was made on May 30 through a communication asking that the State to comply with the precautionary measures that the IACHR issued in favor of the tribes.
Likewise, the implementation of the rights guaranteed in the Constitution which determine that the Executive Function suspends activities in case of sightings, until there are policies, protocols and codes of conduct to protect the lives and self-determination of peoples.
YASunidos spokeswoman Natalia Bonilla said there is concern about the lack of necessary protocols that safeguard the survival of the tribes.
