“Yes” won but The Opposition Was Not Far From It

Posted On 08 May 2011

Off-the-record data of the referendum reflects a new political reality of this country. The government of Rafael Correa has begun to lose to the opposition. The official victory has not been strong enough like in other electoral process.

Studies performed by Cedatos-Ecuavisa, Market, Santiago Perez, CMS, agreed that the “YES” option imposed itself in the referendum with a 55,3%, but the “NO” followed it close-by with 40,3%. The proposal of the Carondelet Palace earned a triumph in the 10 questions; however, these numbers show an increase of the opposition forces in the electoral map, in relation to other popular referendum celebrated in 2007 and 2008.

This new scenario of the country must be confirmed in the official counting of the National Electoral Council (CNE). The institution offered to announce the data in a quick countdown based on the data of the 3,900 boards.
