Suspended Universities in Quito

Fourteen universities and polytechnic schools of the 26 E-category institutions nationwide were suspended since last night on Wednesday by the Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation National Institute (Senescyt).

The released information was confirmed early last Thursday at 10:30 by the Board of Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (Ceaaces).

At a press conference, the Ceaaces indicated that the suspended universities for lacking of the quality parameters in the assessment are the following:

Amazon Green School of Engineering, Polytechnic School Javeriana, Autonomous University of Quito, Latin American Christian University, Intercontinental University, Alfredo Pérez Guerrero University, Panamerican University of Cuenca, Inter American University of Ecuador, Quito Og Mandino University, San Antonio Technical University of Machala, America Technological University, Universitas Ecuatoriales, Prof. Montero Ludeña Servius Tullius Ecological Polytechnic School, and Technical University of Environmental Sciences Jose Peralta.

Ceaaces and Senescyt authorities also reported about the contingency plan that students from suspended universities must follow. For these students there are 59 000 places in upgraded universities so they can continue their studies. During this month, these study centers must notify, the Council of Higher Education (CES), which carries out the contingency plan, how many seats are available to receive students.

The closure of these higher education centres comes after the evaluation process to wich the 26 E-category universities were subjected, since last January 9 to discuss whether they improved the quality of education and the parameters established in the Organic Law Higher Education. (ARL)
