Councillors from Quito, along with Mayor Mauricio Rodas approved ordinance 153, which regulates the payment of property taxes and benefits 410 000 families of Quito.
“Our commitment is to work to take care of the pockets of the people from Quito … With the approval on second reading of this proposed tax equity to pay property taxes in 2015, it is a step towards building a fairer system in city tax,” Rodas said.
Who will benefit from this ordinance shall only be the people who have properties valued at $ 230,000.
Those with properties with an aggregate of up to $ 20,000 and that before paid a $ 5 tax will not pay appraisal. Within this group are 172,000 families that will continue to pay the capital’s fire-fighters and safety taxes.
