2.4 million people mobilized this Carnival holiday

This February 21, 2022, the control authorities gave the balance and evaluation of the Carnival 2023 holiday. The Minister of the Interior, Juan Zapata, from the ECU 911 command center announced that based on road records, tolls and terrestrial terminals 4.2 million people mobilized within the national territory. Zapata indicated that this flow of tourists could increase the flow of capital by 120 million dollars. 

The National Police carried out 9,552 control operations, with 625 detainees and the seizure of 1.6 tons of drugs. In addition, 9 criminal gangs were dismantled.

Bolívar Tello, General Director of ECU 911, reported that the institution coordinated the assistance of 48,000 emergencies compared to 52,000 in 2022, which represents a 6% decrease. The emergencies were concentrated in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca and Ambato. Tello added that the increase in rainfall caused flood reports to increase this year to 20 versus 11 last year.
