Julian Assange released from prison, after agreement with the United States
Julian Assange, founder of the Wikileaks portal, reached an agreement with the United States Department of Justice to accept charges for the leak of classified documents from the Government of that country.

The agreement included a sentence of 62 months in prison; As Assange had been detained since April 11, 2019 in the Bellmarsch maximum security prison, in the United Kingdom, it is considered that his sentence was served and a court based in London granted him freedom.
As reported by Wikileaks, Assange left prison during the afternoon of this Monday, June 24, 2024 and boarded a flight to his native Australia.
With this, the computer scientist will not be able to be imprisoned in the United States. In April, President Joe Biden had analyzed the possibility of pardoning Assange, following a request from Australian diplomats.
Assange was facing criminal charges for a crime against the US Espionage Act, after revealing classified information on his website about the country’s actions in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This forced the Australian to take refuge for six years in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he was granted political asylum in 2012. On April 11, 2019, he was arrested by the British Police, after the withdrawal of his diplomatic status during the Government of Lenín Moreno.
