2011 Panamerican Games: Gold and Silver for Ecuador

The Ecuadorian weightlifter, Maria Alexandra Escobar won the first gold medal for Ecuador in the 2011 Panamerican Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

After promising his son Dominic, 5, she would win the gold medal, Escobar won the 58 kg category weightlifting test.

The Colombian Jackeline Heredia and Lina Rivas were their top rivals.

SECOND SILVER

Ecuadorian athlete Byron Piedra added the second silver medal for the Tricolor in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14m15s74c. The gold was won by Mexican Juan Luis Barrios, and bronze, Brazilian Joilson Silva.
