24 new regulations for vehicles
The Government ordered 24 new safety standards mandatory for cars. The representatives of the industry said that they they will follow the regulation. Of course, they suggest, that the application deadline has to be in keeping with the reality of the sector.
Diego Luna, President of the Association of automotive companies of Ecuador (Aeade), explained that the new rules range from automatic daytime running lights to adaptations for seats for children and new brake systems. At the discretion of the directors of the Association, the situation will be similar to that in August. Last year, implemented a regulation that forced cars to have two airbags, that made that the Vitara and Nissan Sentra models come out of the market.
Although not specified 24 changes, Luna said that, at the moment, is consulted the applicability of rules with international bodies. Then, the time limits will be discussed with the importers. He is expected that the first modifications come into effect from 2015. Other adaptations, sees it, must be gradual in at least four years.
At the table of negotiations, employers will include orders to avoid rising prices of vehicles. As a solution, suggest respondents, it is lowering taxes for the imported car or its components. The national customs service and the internal revenue service should assess whether, for example, tariffs are not charged for new parts of security that must be imported.
