The withdrawal from the IACHR,puts at risk the presence of Ecuador in the OAS

The Government continues analyzing the idea to withdraw from the Inter-American system of Human Rights, once yesterday, during a meeting of the Member countries of the Pact of San José, there was also no consensus to promote a reform of the Inter-American system of human rights that Ecuador is supporting. This is the change of the headquarters of the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (IACHR), the financing of the system and that all the countries of the hemisphere ratify the American Convention of Human Rights.
In the final resolution of the meeting, which took place in Uruguay, is was established the “analysis the best alternatives” to “measure the consequences of a possible change of venue”. Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Paraguay included a note in the report in which “reserve their position on the points contained in the statement until these are examined by the competent bodies of the OAS”.
However, Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño said that it is possible to make the change of venue since it is legally viable.
The possible withdrawal of Ecuador, will be negotiated next June in the appointment of Paraguay of the OAS. Thus evidenced this week, when the legal Secretary of the Presidency, Alexis Mera, spoke of the issue.
On the other hand, the warning from the regime would separate the country from a complex institutional architecture, where a possible withdrawal of the IACHR, would compromise the presence of the Ecuador in the OAS.
