27,000 candidates were registered for the local elections

Following the closure of the registration process, the National Electoral Council (CNE) reported 27,342 candidates across the country, that is a little more than half of those they calculated to make the call for elections (about 50 thousand).
CNE President, Domingo Paredes said he expected more entries, based on the total of dignities to be elected (5,651), and the number of qualified political organizations (124). “We think that this universe of organizations we would face a flood of candidates,” explained Paredes.
The president said “it appears that the weight of the national organizations is gravitating complex processes and have seen alliances, which decreased the number of the enrolled considerably.”
Only the Alianza PAIS (AP) presented 5,600 candidates across the country and to all dignities to be elected in February.
