30-S: Minister Accuses the Three Judges that Ruled in Carrion Case
On May 13, the Fifth Criminal Court of Pichincha ratified the innocence of the police members César Carrión, Luis Martínez, Luis Bahamonde and Jaime Paucar, of attempted murder against President Rafael Correa.
However, the Minister of Justice, Johana Pesántez, disagreed with the decision taken by the judges Hugo Sierra, Luis Fernandez and Jacqueline Pachacama. That is why yesterday she filed a complaint against the judges.
The provincial director of the Judicial Council of Transition, Ivan Escandon, welcomed the document and ordered an administrative investigation against the judges.
In a 12 pages document, the officer gave five days for the judges to present exculpatory evidence in the case reported.
In her complaint, Pesántez refers to the actions of the judges Bahamonde, Paucar and Martinez because they ruled in favor of the police members. In her opinion, during the trial hearing the prosecution proved the material facts that constitute an attack on the president’s life.
