The creators of the Internet, Wikileaks and the leaders of Arab riots are among the 241 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize this year.
“The final number of candidates is 241, 53 of them are organizations,” Geir Lundestad (Nobel Institute director) said on Tuesday.
Although the canditate list is kept a secret due to the Nobel Prize’s statutes, Lundestad said that the riots in the Arab world are among the aspirants of the Nobel prize. “We’ve received several proposals that reflect the observed situation, especially in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya,” he said.
Internet developers, Larry Roberts, Vint Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee, are also among the contenders for the Nobel.
The Nobel prize winner of this year will be announced in October.
