ETA Disbands Ekin

The supposed chief of Ekin, Eneko Compains

Recently the Basque terrorist group ETA has dissolved their political group Ekin. This political entity was in charge of handling politics of the left abertzale. The members of the illegal organization will become part of Batasuna and thus the political party will assume the direction of Ekin with the approval of ETA.

Managers of the terrorist group justify the disbanding of Ekin due to its lack of commitment to the purpose of the group. It is still unclear the function of the Ekin members inside the abertzale. However it is believed that they will continue with the rejection towards violence.

Experts believe that the dissolution of Ekin is something positive since it supposes that Batasuna is replacing the initiative of ETA. Ekin was founded on November 6 of 1999, as a successor of the illegal group KAS. (AV)
