The Transition of the Ecuadorian Judicial Council is on its Way

Posted On 14 Jul 2011

With the publication of the Ecuadorian referendum results in the Official Register, the Government began to organize the first activities that the new Judicial Council members are expected to do as soon as they arrive to the institution.

Yesterday, Minister of Politics, Doris Soliz, released dates and said the new Judicial Council of Transition could take office early next week and their first task will be: to audit all actions made by the dissolved Judiciary Council.

“The first thing they will do (the Tripartite Commission) will be a work plan with a roadmap for the next 18 months (time they will be in charge of the office), and start rapidly transforming justice,” said the minister. She added that the national government through the Ministry of Justice has a list of proposals and ideas that the new court could take into account for their work, but she gave no details.

This new body shall appoint a director as one of its first steps for its operation. But until the creation of this Commission, the Judiciary system will go through a short period of leaderless since the Council was dissolved yesterday.

Council’s executive director, Gustavo Donoso, will be in charge of his coworkers as long as it last the absence of higher executives in the Judiciary Council. (FO)
