Egypt: Mubarak’s Third Hearing Lasted 12 hours

The third trial of former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak, 83, began Monday in Cairo. Mubarak arrived at the courthouse in an ambulance because he has heart problems and depression.
The statements of witnesses would determine the president’s responsibility in the deaths of protesters during the revolt that ended his regime in January.
Among the witnesses were Gen. Hussein Musa, Major Emad Badry and Captain Basem Hasan, Mubarak’s defense attorneys, got angry when they realized that the testimonies of the witnesses did not provide any light on the alleged involvement of President.
After a 12-hour day, at 21.30 local time (19.30 GMT) judge Refat decided to close the session and convene a new hearing next Wednesday. If convicted, Mubarak could be sentenced to capital punishment.
