A Book Compiles Jacqueline Kennedy’s Unpublished Conversations
“Please do not send me somewhere else. If something happens we will be here with you,” these were the words of Jacqueline Kennedy to her husband John F. ex U.S. Kennedy to ask him not to send her away from the White House during the Cuban missile crisis that confronted the United States and the Soviet Union in October 1962.
These and other statements, some typical of a Hollywood script, were taken a few months after Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963 and emerge from the conversations she had with Arthur Schlesinger Jacqueline, who was the president’s friend and collaborator for many years.
The recordings, unreleased so far will come to light on Wednesday with the launch of the book called Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy, published by Hyperion. Several CDs containing the recordings will be attached to the book.
The material, which occupies six and a half hours of recordings, provides a more intimate awareness of the Kennedy marriage in some of the tensest moments in their story.
