Correa Reiterated his Belief to Replace the OAS
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa confirmed his comments about replacing the Organization of American States (OAS) by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean (CELAC for its Spanish acronym), which will be instituted in December this year.
After accusing the OAS to be biased in favor of hegemonic nations and serve as an instrument of the United States, Correa expressed his concern that the CELAC is the new forum for conflict resolution in Latin America. Also questioned the OAS headquarters in Washington is where they also operate their bodies like the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
The criticisms of the president to the regional body have intensified since last October 25 held a hearing at the Commission at the request of several journalists.
