James Murdoch Resigns as BSkyB chairman

The media tycoon son, James Murdoch resigned from his role as chairman of UK satellite broadcaster BSkyB. However, he will remain on the board.

While his father Rupert founded News Corporation, it had to drop its bid for BSkyB due to the phone-hacking scandal at the News of the World newspaper. Last month, James Murdoch stood down as chairman of the Sunday’s paper’s publisher, News International.

James said in a statement that he did not want BSkyB to be undermined by “matter outside this company.” The decision of Mr. Murdoch to leave the company was his own, since he did not want the negative criticism of News of the World to hamper the interests of BSkyB. (AV)
