Rescue operatives ended their search for survivors of a second killer earthquake in northeastern Italy last Wednesday. While several aftershocks as strong as 3,8 magnitude continued to shake the shocked region.
Thousands of scared survivors fearful of further tremors remained close to camps where they had sought refuge. Tuesday’s quake occurred at 60 km east of Parma, the natural phenomena claimed the lives of 17 people and left 350 injured.
The Italian government declared a state of emergency in the earthquake-stricken area and announced June 4 as a national day of mourning for the victims. (AV)
