President Rafael Correa Propose Changes in the American System of Human Rights

The president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, arrived early today to Cochabamba, Bolivia to participate in the 42nd Assembly of the OAS and defend his proposal to reform the American system in human rights.

Correa will meet early with President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, who invited him to attend the meeting of foreign ministers, and then participate in the first debate sessions of the regional forum.

One of the assembly main themes of the meeting dealt with the hunger and malnutrition in the region, affecting 53 million Latin American and Caribbean people, but in previous discussions, possible reforms of the American system in human rights were pointed out, requested by Correa and his allies.

The Ecuadorian president also discussed the following topics:

Media – The danger to democracy, for true free speech, are not goverments. The danger is bad journalism.

Migrants – The criminalization of migration is an attack on the human right of mobility.

NGO’s – There are many NGO funded by right movements that intend to boycott processes of change in our America.

In the forum opening, Morales demanded the Human Rights Commission to also monitor the U.S. and said the Commission tries to see the problem in countries where the president, the government does not share the policies of that country in reference to his allies in the Bolivarian Alliance (Alba for its spanish acronym), specially Ecuador and Venezuela.
