Conservative Party Wins Elections in Greece

The New Democracy party leader Antonis Samaras is hailed by supporters after declaring himself the winner.

Antonis Samaras, leader of the conservative New Democracy movement, was declared winner of the  Greek Elections yesterday, promising the Mediterranean country’s standing in the Euro Zone.

The Conservative New Democracy movement (ND) was the most voted party in the Greek legislative elections. ND got 29.78% of the votes while the opposition Syriza movement achieved 26.82%.

With these results, ND obtained 129 seats and Pasok, 33. Therefore, ND and Pasok, partners in the previous government that settled the austerity measures with the European Union, would get 162 seats between them, above the absolute majority of 151, allowing them to form a coalition government. (MZ)
