Relative of Rafael Correa, investigated by embezzlement

Four former officials of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR for its Spanish acronym), including a relative of President Rafael Correa and representative of the Anonimato company, were linked by the Prosecutor’s Office in a case of embezzlement.

The charge, based on reports of the Comptroller’s Office, was given by the alleged simulation contests with false quotes to make communication contracts to companies from the Navas Group, whose main shareholder was Tamara Navas Giangrande.

One of the audited contracts that presented anomalies on its quotes, corresponds to one made by the Ministry of Tourism, which contracted Anonimato for $ 7,944 to organize the opening of the signaling of the Spondylus Route.

Salinas, Santa Elena. In December 2008, the Anonimato company organized the opening of the signaling in the Spondylus Route.

On December 6, prosecutor Nelson Vela Andrade filed charges against Esteban Delgado de la Cuadra, former secretary of Coastal Tourism; Loira Delgado Granizo, former manager of Coastal Tourism; Aline Gutierrez Northia, former Marketing chief and Peter Cedeño Singüencia, former employee of the Administrative Unit.

Loira Delgado Granizo is cousin of Norma Delgado Rendon, Rafael Correa’s mother. Her sister, Cassia Delgado Granizo, was the president’s private secretary.

The trial is currently being developed in the 20^th Court of Crime of Guayas, headed by Judge Ricardo Ramos Aguilera.
