32% of doubts on behalf of voters in the country

Posted On 27 Jan 2013

It is a fact that in various parts of Ecuador, the presidential candidates of the current election race are not known. In addition, some Ecuadorians have no access to media for which they could learn of the electoral process.

That is the case of the Pucara and Paccha communities, in the parish of Cangahua, Cayambe canton (Pichincha), where there are no political caravans or traces of their presence. The campaign goes imperceptible, and so does the names of the presidential candidates.

Inhabitants of the Pucara community feel doubt on who to vote for in this elections.

Also, only few people have access to television and are aware of some work plans of certain candidates.

According to the Perfiles de Opinion survey, conducted in urban and rural areas of ten provinces in the country, 32.3% of voters do not know who to vote for.

Paulina Recalde, director of Perfiles, notes that for the presidential election this is a reasonable percentage and that the support of that 32% is unpredictable in the electoral process.

Meanwhile, Omar Simon, former president of the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym), believes that most people who claim to be undecided, has already defined their position, but they prefer not to expose their vote choice.

Simon also believes that when there is a majority view in favor of a candidate, the votes of the electors are defined.
