Opening of polls did not influenced on the results

Posted On 18 Mar 2013

After several political groups asked the opening of polls in the Electoral Boards of Guayas and Los Rios, due to inconsistencies in the counting of votes, the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) proceeded to meet the demands.

On last Saturday afternoon 29 polls were opened at the request of the Partido Renovador Institucional Accion Nacional (PRIAN) and the Partido Sociedad Patriotica (PSP), which impugnated the results in these provinces.

In Guayas, by the request of PRIAN movement, 26 polls were opened. The secretary of the Board of that province, Sergio Benitez, said the claim did not influence the result because in most polls they did not found “important” numerical inconsistencies that could harm the organization and explained that only in some ballots, the figure fluctuated by up to four votes.

The opening of polls in the Electoral Board of Guayas began last Saturday and concluded yesterday.

The opening of polls in the Electoral Board of Guayas began last Saturday and concluded yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the province of Los Rios, opening of three polls was authorized by request of the PSP, which argued that there were suspended records due to numerical inconsistencies, and that at the time of compute those records in the system, they were “allegedly” harmed with up to 620,465 votes.

For PSP legislator Galo Lara, who oversaw the review, the process showed clear evidence of “fraud” because in the three polls it was demonstrated that the votes inside them did not match the numerical consistency as reflected in the records and CNE’s computer system.
