Glas Viejo case would be tried in the courtroom of Judge Paredes

Judge Juan Paredes
Prosecutors of Jorge Heriberto Glas Viejo are preparing a complaint of malfeasance against Franklin Ortiz Ordonez, temporary judge of the 10th Criminal Court, for accepting an appeal to the trial made by Hector Davalos Peredo, Glas Viejo defender; so said Pedro Granja, sponsor of the mother of the minor who accused Glas Viejo of raping her.
Upon acceptance of the appeal for the trial, the case against Glas Viejo fell in the Second Criminal, Collusive and Traffic Chamber, formed by judges Marco Quimiz, Gabriel Manzur and Juan Paredes, who also serves as its chairman.
Regarding the complaint, according to the prosecution, judge Ortiz committed malfeasance for ruled against an specific law provided in the reform of the Code of Criminal Procedure on March 24, 2009, which removed the appeal for trial, thereby granting the appeal made by Davalos, who according to Granja “ignoring the criminal process theory, instead of filing an annulment petition he files a figure already eliminated from the Code.”
Granja asserted “Ortiz and Davalos forget that President (Rafael Correa) considered necessary to accelerate the process, i.e. that sentences are issued in reasonable time and thus eliminated the appeal for trial, which was carried out by the Assembly.”
