Employees of Casa Tosi demand their profits

Posted On 23 Apr 2013

Yesterday, outside Casa Tosi, in downtown Guayaquil, employees and former employees of the department store, gathered with signs in hand, to demand the payment of their profits, which they ensured, they have not been paid since 2008.

One of the complainants, Vanessa Choca, who worked for five years at the company, said they have not recognized the payment of overtime. “We decided to protest because in recent months we were harassed  to force us to resign. Our partners support us, but not everyone has come because they are afraid,” she said. Another worker from Tosi, Paola Espinoza, said: “We expected the general manager to hear us, but he never appeared.”

"We demand our rights" says the billboard carried by the employees of Casa Tosi.

“We demand our rights” says the billboard carried by the employees of Casa Tosi.

Apparently, Casa Tosi’s labor problems got complicated after the Superintendence of Banks intervened the company for alleged ties with the Territorial Bank’s manager, Francesco Zunino. The bank is intervened by the authorities and in the hands of a liquidator, Carlos Espinoza, who said through a statement that Territorial customers who feel affected because they have not received their money or do not appear on lists of customers, may submit written complaints until May 7.
