Spilled oil extends to Peruvian waters

Marco Calvopiña, Manager of Petroecuador, reported that the company asked the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador to notice the Peruvian Government over the possible arrival into its territory of an oil slick that is expanding trough the Napo River as a result of the break of the Trans-Ecuadorian System Oil Pipeline (SOTE) , that occurred last Friday in the sector of  ‘El Reventador’, and led to the spill of about 10 000 barrels.

Lorena Tapia, Minister of Environment, said that the technicians of this ministry are still evaluating the environmental and social damage caused by the spill of oil, and added that at the request of the Ministry, Petroecuador is supplying drinking water to the inhabitants of Coca with tanker trucks, and sending 5 000 containers of 12-liter  every three days to rural areas.

Authorities of Petroecuador and the Ministry of the Environment will overflight the area and is expected the issuing of a report on the impact of the spill that will allow the start of the environmental measures.
