Monte Sinai inhabitants are leaving their homes

Posted On 05 Jun 2013

“Don’t leave you cowards!” yelled hundreds of people to families who voluntarily disarmed their homes and abandoned the Las Marias Cooperative, in the Monte Sinai area, before police forces allegedly arrived and carry out the evictions, as happened 25 days ago in neighboring cooperatives Toral Thalia I and II.

Police officers warned the people that evictions would come and they had to leave.

Police officers warned the people that evictions would come and they had to leave.

“I have no idea where to go, but I leave because I believe that there is nothing to be done,” said Jose Aguas, who had his wooden house on a hill and lived there with his four children.

The fear of eviction comes just after the deadline fulfillment of eight days, which was given to these people in order to voluntarily leave these lands, which are part of the 200 acres that the state claims as its own.

People, who stayed and kept on watch of their homes until today morning, announced they fear of evictions carried out by the police. The persevering residents expect that the requested resource of precautionary measures on last Monday at the Provincial Court of Justice, can help their cause.
