Posted On 21 Aug 2013

The transmission of the Qatari Group Al – Jazeera began yesterday at 19:00 (14:00 in Ecuador) in the United States to around 40 million homes, promising a serious journalism and in-depht information.

During the first broadcast Al – Jazeera America offered 14 hours live, with newsletters, programs, debates, documentaries and in-depth reports, which – according to the chain – are the strong point of its programming, which will have a maximum of six minutes of advertising per hour, less than the average of American television.

“We are in the air,” #AlJazeeraAmerica just take off and we are live. Are you ready to give a new look to the news?”announced the channel through his Twitter account.

One of his first reports to be transmitted, will be on Bangladesh, in its programme “Fault Lines” that investigated in Bangladesh how U.S. companies would be prioritizing their profits at the expense of the well-being and health of the workers who manufacture their products.

The chain hired several of the most famous journalists of American television as Soledad O’Brien and Ali Velshi, CNN, or Sheila MacVicar, who worked for ABC and CNN and a whole page of advertising in traditional media like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, as well as ads in social networks, mainly on Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

A total of 850 people work in this new channel, and will be distributed in 12 offices open throughout the United States and other 70 in the rest of the world, New York to be the seat of its headquarters.
