During the general audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francisco lashed against usury on Wednesday and qualified it  as a “dramatic social plague” that affects so many families today.

Before greeting an association that combats usury who attended the audience he said “when a family does not have anything to eat because they have to repay the loan to the loan sharks. This is not Christian. It’s inhumane.”

Likewise he called on the institutions that work to support the victims of this “dramatic social plague that offends the dignity of persons.”

During his message in Spanish, the pope invited everyone to remember that “we have received the confirmation, to thank God for him and ask him to help us to live as true Christians and to walk always with joy.”
